Sattvic--simple, whole, natural

Rajasic-- spicy, pungent,

-- Ayurvedic wisdom says , you are not what you eat but what you absorb & assimilate

 --Ghee (clarified butter) is considered most vital dairy- medicines in Ayurveda, belongs to the element of LOVE in the body

 

--Sushruta ( First Ayurvedic physician, regarded ghee as a intellegence building principle, while Charaka, praised its memory building properties and vital bodily essence the 'OJAS'

  TASTES IN AYURVEDA  

There are six tastes according to Ayurveda.  Each taste carry within it the cosmic memory of its original seed from times immortal. A balanced food preparation should consist items from each taste says the wisdom of Ayurveda....

Salty:-- mildly laxative/ sedative, promotes digestion eg: sindh salt, rock salt , black salt, salted meats, fish (mineral salts)

Sweet: most nutritive, build body tissues eg: ghee (clarified butter), rice, wheat bread, corn bread , sugar, honey, milk, butter, pastas, meats etc

Sour: improves appetite & promotes digestion eg: lime, lemon, citrus food, yogurt, cheeses, tomatoes, pickles, vinegar

Bitter : detoxifying & anti-inflammatory --eg: green leafy vegetable, neem,aloe, fenugreek leaves, arugula, sprouts, beets, lemon rind

Astringent : drying, constricts systems --eg: unripe banana, green leafy vegetable, beans, tea, apple, cabbage, pomegranates, cauliflower

Pungent:  stimulates digestion & clears congestion eg: green chillies, cayyene pepper, ginger, garlic, mustard green, cloves, horseradish

 

Recipe of the Month..

 

Herbal-Digestive

Tea !

 

 

 

Ingredients 

Herbal Tea Pot with Sieve

3 cups boiled Water

2 green cardamom pod split up

3 to 4 cinammom chips

2 clove black Peppercorn

1 slice Licorice stick *optional *

3-4  Pure Saffron Thread 

Method

Put all spices & Herbs into the teapot sieve. Pour hot boiling water and cover with the teacozy if you have it. Let brew for 5-7 minutes to get the aroma from herbs to steep thru. Pour a cup and Enjoy!

Great beverage in Fall & Winter months any time !

* Licorice is great for combating cold and cough during winter months by all means add if needed.

*Option # 3 great in Summer- afternoons!

Option #2:

6-7 leaves of Fresh or  dry Rosemary

1/8 tsp fresh or dry thyme

1/8 tsp dry or 2 leaves of sage

follow same method of Preparation as above.

*Option #3:

2-3 leaves LemonBalm

2-3 leaves of Lemon Grass fresh or dry

 1/2 tsp sliced fresh Ginger

Benefits:

INDIAN PENNYWORTH OR THYME-LAVED GRATIOPLA-

Also known as Gotu kola, the whole plant is used Ayurvedically.

 Bitter, pungent, sweet and colling in nature, brahmi is used to promote memory, sleep, and longevity.

 It is a good blood cleanser to reduce internal bleeding and to alleviate heart diseases & diabetes. Good for all doshas but excellent for Pitta disorders. !!!!
